Journal History

In 2002, the Euro-Asian Accreditation Association of Evangelical Educational Institutions established "Theological Reflections: Euro-Asian Journal of Theology: Euro-Asian Journal of Theology", as a professional specialized periodical scientific and theological publication of Evangelical Protestantism in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, with the aim of helping national authors publish their works and familiarize the modern Christian world with evangelical theological thought in post-Soviet countries.

The first issue of the magazine was published in 2003 and immediately attracted the attention of the theological audience with its professional level and academic approach. All articles in the journal were published in two languages - the original language and in full translation into English.

The administrative editor was Sergey Viktorovich Sannikov (executive director of the EAAA at the time), the international editor was Mary Rayber (a researcher at the EAAA at the time), the technical editor and designer (and unofficially acting editor) was Lev Golodetsky. The members of the editorial board were leading experts and theologians from various theological educational institutions: A. Glukhovsky, S. Golovin, V. Lyubashchenko, A. Negrov, P. Penner, A. Prilutsky, G. Pshenichny, G. Sergienko, M. Soussi, I. Shkulis. The editorial and publishing team in this composition prepared and published the first 10 issues of the magazine. The journal was published in the form of regular issues until 2011, and then the regular issues alternated with special thematic issues.

2011 to 2014 Sergei Sannikov was the editor-in-chief and editor-in-chief, Taras Dyatlik was the administrative editor, Mary Rayber was the international editor, and L.A. was technical editor and designer. Golodetsky. The editorial board was renewed and expanded to 12 people (among them - Roman Solovy and Mikhail Cherenkov). For 10 years (from 2003 to 2014), the journal has developed as a professional scientific periodical of the domestic evangelical theological community, gained authority in the scientific world and firmly took a leading position among domestic theological journals.

In 2015, only one special issue was published, dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the Reformation (chief ed. - S.V. Sannikov, admin. Ed. - R.P. Soloviy, technical ed. - L.A. Golodetsky) ... Starting in 2016, the question arose about the further development of the journal and raising its official status as a professional scientific periodical, indexed by national and international scientometric agencies, which ensures the authority and wide recognition of the scientific publications of authors in the scientific world. Fresh scientific forces and specialists theologians were involved in the work on the journal, the composition of the editorial board changed: Roman Pavlovich Soloviy (director of the EAAA research center at that time) became the editor-in-chief and chairman of the editorial board. - Oleksandr Geychenko (academic dean of the Odessa Theological Seminary at the time), international ed. - there was still Mary Rayber (by this time - Doctor of Divinity), technical ed. - Tatiana Dyatlik, designer - Alexander Pavlichenko. The editorial board was renewed and expanded. The design and style of the magazine has changed - it has become more modern and original.

In the renewed staff, the editorial and publishing team continued to regularly publish the magazine - two issues a year. 2016 to 2020 9 issues were published - regular and special. The main change in the journal's policy during this period was that the journal became a peer-reviewed scientific periodical.

In total, from 2003 to 2020, 29 issues  were published. Due to the fact that some special issues were not taken into account in the sequential numbering of regular issues, there were 24 numbered issues (5 issues less than the actual number published). This discrepancy should be kept in mind by librarians and readers who wish to review and compile a selection of all published Theological Reflections magazines. All 29 issues of the journal are presented on this site in the "Archive" section.

The Euro-Asian Accreditation Association published the journal from 2003 to 2020. From the second half of 2020, the Eastern European Institute of Theology became the publisher of the journal.

Today Theological Reflections is the leading scientific and theological journal of evangelical Protestantism in the post-Soviet countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia. The journal is indexed in leading national and international scientific databases and library catalogs.
